After 1,099 days of real madrid dominance over europe's top elite competition, a new king will take over.
This new king is Liverpool.
This new king is Liverpool.
Match review:
At first, i was so excited to watch the final. The semi-finals comebacks made the final look even more interesting. Anyways, game starts, just 30 seconds into play a penalty was awarded for Liverpool. Sissoko was telling his teammate with his hands to get back further into defense when sadio mane kicked the ball into his hands.
I believe that the penalty was wrongly given. It was so clear the sissoko didn't mean it at all, but that's football you can't stop a game that is being watched by millions all over the world. So, Salah converts the penalty but Lloris was so close to save it. What happened next is.... ABSOLUTELY BAD. The rest of the game was the most boring UCL final in years. In fact, many people on social media lists today's final as the worst UCL final in more than 15 years! Thanks though to origi for adding that second late goal, it woke me up from my couch.
Spurs were much better and had more possession but they didn't seem to know how to finish their attacking runs. Virgil Van Dijk, which i believe now that he is a bargain for 75M£, played a major role today. He stopped two clear chances for tottenham which could have went it. Also, Alisson... also a bargain, was in top form today as he saved a brilliant free kick from erikssen and other shots on target.
Congrats to Klopp who never gave up, he lost 6 consecutive finals from the 2013 UCL final to last year's UCL final. He finally won something in Liverpool, remember when he said this in 2015: " I'm sure that in 4 years from now i will win at least one trophy, if i don't i will go coach in swistzerland". Well there you go, he promised and fullfilled the promise. Hats off to you Klop, one of the best managers in the world... only if you were lucky enough in the past finals. he could have been ranked among guardiola, mourinho,zidane,wenger....
As for Pochettino, this man is incredible, not a single dime spent yet he managed to reach with this team to their first ever UCL final. Hats off to him as well, he's really good but the team he manages isn't as strong as it should be. He made a mistake by putting Kane in the starting lineup.
So, Congrats again to Liverpool and bad luck to Tottenham. Liverpool is now the 3rd most successfull club in the UCL with 6 wins behind AC Milan who has 7 wins and Real Madrid the strongest team this competition ever knew, with 13 UCL! Fun fact, english teams now have 13 UCL combined which is now equal to the number of UCL trophys for Real Madrid. A team that competes with a league. Incredible
See you in the next blog post! Take Care :)
